LETTER FROM NAMI BOARD PRESIDENT, SUSAN ADAMS

Valentine’s Day is February 14th. Wikipedia says: “Valentine's Day or Saint
Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14 by many people
throughout the world. In the English-speaking countries, it is the traditional
day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine’s
cards, presenting flowers or offering confectionary.”

Recently we have lost 3 members of the Mental Health Community: January
3rd Dan Foust died outside of Memphis, Tennessee and January 11th Sandy
Weisenberger died in her home in Franklin, Ohio. Dan was 51 and Sandy was
56. Much too young for us to think of losing them. We all just were with Sandy
at the NAMI Christmas party in December, enjoying her ever popular cookies.
Also, Mary Shelton, 46, of Franklin passed away on January 19th.

So, this year, I want you all to change the meaning of Valentine’s Day just a
bit. Instead of making it just a day for “lovers to express their love”, how
about if we make it a day for friends to let each other know just how important
they are in our lives. Because we never know when any of us will leave this
earth…..I want to make sure that my friends know how much I love them before
its too late.

Susan
